Welcome to the world of Roguelike games! I have to warn you, once you get hooked into this genre, there is no turning back. Roguelike games are mostly Role-Playing Games inspired by the classic game Rogue
The main elements of the game Rogue are:
- randomly generated levels
- character development
- multiple character classes
- skill system
- loot and inventory system
- permanent death ( yes it is a feature! )
-emphasis on replayabilty and new experience every time you start a new game
Probably the main appeal to these games is the permanent death system where a player will not only resort to mindless clicking and reloading every time a player dies. Instead the player will have to use skill and thought to make its character progress and achieve its goals. There is also the added thrill in knowing that each move you make will be your last, for players of this genre, not dying as each second passes is already it's own reward.
Writing about and listing each roguelike game released this year alone is a feat in itself, so i am not going to update the list i wrote below, rogueBasin has a very big list of games.

Free Multi-Platform Fantasy RPG
angband One of the front runners of the roguelike genre, first created in 1990. It is still being actively developed and bug-fixed and played to this day. Many variations and flavors (in different titles) are now available and can be downloaded and played separately.

A commercial RPG Series that brought about the hack and slash genre
diablo 2 The Diablo series is dark fantasy. In this game you will find different demons and monsters you will otherwise not encounter in standard fantasy role-playing games.

legends of yore This game has a big game world and has gameplay elements similar to Diablo, like the scroll of town portal. This game is free to play until Level 20 after that you will have to purchase the game to proceed.

red rogue rpg I might have skipped the story part but i am not sure, or maybe this game does not have a story? You and your minion can go to deeper levels of dungeons as you gain levels. This game you can play on your browser with a Flash plugin installed.

-you collect the hearts of the monsters you have killed so you can eat them later to gain life.
-items you equip actually shows on screen
-intuitive controls
-you have a minion that you can also equip
-the minion can also be controlled by a second player

Free multi-platform Fantasy RPG
tome 4 This game was originally a variant of Angband ‘Tales of Middle Earth’ but has since gone into a different path and changed it’s name.

the binding of isaac This game is unique among fantasy roguelike games, in terms of story, premise, and gameplay. this game does away with standard fantasy weapons like swords but instead the items you will find will mutate Isaac for more power among other improvements.
