How to beat Super Mario Bros. fast!

Super Mario Brothers Warp Speed

This guide will show you how to get to Bowser, the final boss of Super Mario Brothers and beat the game fast.

For the purpose of quick delivery of information, the introduction (read: kind-of-useless information) has been moved to the last part of the article.

Tip 1. Avoid most enemies if you can and just pass them by, the only enemy you will really need to kill in this game is Bowser the final boss.

Tip 2. Always run, by holding down the B button on the pad, Mario or Luigi will always run. Running will allow you to jump higher and longer.

World 1-1

The first stage of Super Mario Brothers is the most memorable. Many casual gamers find this stage to have medium difficulty during their first attempts. So even if you do not aspire to finish this game, you can impress many people just by finishing this stage in under 5 minutes. They key is to take the short-cut pipe and emerge near the end of the stage. If you are skilled enough, just after the short-cut pipe, there is a hidden 1up life. See if you can get that power-up and still take the short-cut after.

World 1-2

On this level, the trick is to get the power up that makes mario big, then hit the ceiling tiles and bust them. Once you have made the gap, jump over the gap so you will be running on the ceiling avoiding the obstacles and enemies.
World 4-1

There is not much to do on this level except get the hidden 1up life. Other than that, you will be having fun dodging the falling egg things the turtle on the cloud is throwing at you.

World 4-2

Get to the secret 'bean stalk' and you have got it made. Plus you will get free coins at the top before you warp to World 8.

World 8-1

World 8-1 is a long journey to the flagpole. And there is the tricky jump that you have to fail in a couple of times before you can master it and get past it. You will have to master it because there is no getting around to that. So it helps to get most of the 1up lives you can find on the levels you pass because of this level.

World 8-2

This level for me is the best level in the game, simply because you get the unlimited 1up life power up. This means that once you get the power-up and you die later in the level, you can restart the level and still have a chance to get that power up again. So your total lives will not reduce to zero if you keep on dying due to missed jumps. This level is a tricky one too.

World 8-3

This level is difficult for me. If you cannot time the jumps to get past the guys throwing hammers at you, then this level will be difficult for you too. I suggest you get the flower power-up on the previous levels and just fireball these guys.

World 8-4

This is the final level. To keep this level easy, get the flower power up and just blast Koopa. If you only have the mushroom power up that makes mario big, that's ok, just make sure you keep that on you until you face Koopa. Having the power up, you can just run past Koopa and hit the switch to make him fall to the lava and you are done!
