1. For each mission, you get a new unit to play with, you can either mass produce this unit and use only that unit for that particular mission or try to use this unit together with other units and form different strategies.
2. Most of the missions hav you racing against time or a foe, this will really try your tactical abilities and keep you from farming minerals and waiting for your forces amass. Find out how short you can finish those missions, then do it again and beat your own record.
3. One mission will allow you to build a protoss force defending your base from a zerg attack. This mission is very different because you will have to deffend your base until all your forces have been defeated. Given this mission with unlimited resources, you can try out anything you want and build to your heart's desire, you are gonna eventually die anyway. hehehe
4. Throught the course of the entire Wings of Liberty Campaign, you will be able to get protoss or zerg based upgrades, check out the Lab and see first which upgrades you want then go for the missions that gives you which upgrade points you need, be it protoss or zerg.
5. The terran units are fun to use because some of them have dual modes, like the seige tank which can turn into a tank or a heavy artillery. Micromanaging these units together with the other units will make for different strategies.
